About The Event
How do we describe the indescribable, explain the transient, detail a trace?
Delilah’s sound and text installation explores language as a site of haunting. From the most basic of words, to elaborate narratives, her work explores how different modes of communication hold the words we use for the unexplainable.
It has been observed that in times with a heightened proximity to death, such as the years surrounding a conflict or pandemic, cultural interest in the paranormal skyrockets. Expanding on the classic ‘ghost story’, Delilah looks at how stories and testimonies haunt the spaces in which they are recorded. How do the traces of language create cultural hauntings and where are the haunted houses of the technological age?
Delilah’s practice has a conceptual focus, exploring the tension between the metaphysical and the mundane. While making this piece she has been in conversation with a ghost hunter as well as gathering first hand ghostly experiences. She has also been pulling apart both analogue and digital sound technology to create the installation.
