Brief:

Applications are now open for 2 paid commissions for artists living in Armley. Proposals will be accepted for artworks in any form which can be exhibited digitally.

Artists living in the LS12 postcode are invited to respond to one of the themes outlined below. Responses can be in any format that can be shared digitally; this could be digital drawing, video,  animation, film, sound or painting, drawing, dance, performance, or sculpture that can be filmed, photographed or scanned. It could also be a research/community-engagement/community-organising based project which is documented online via a blog or video. We are especially interested in projects that engage with the digital space in a creative way.

There are 2 key strands that run through our 2020 Digital Programme’s projects and commissions.  These themes are:

  1. Movement, mindfulness and connection with our bodies

  2. Positive outcomes of lockdown and isolation, and lessons learned for the future

For the LS12 artist commission we are inviting applications which respond to 1 or more of these themes:

  • Positive impacts on the local area, or how the area has changed, grown, or where there is potential to grow for the better. This could include but is not limited to:

    • Investigating areas of Armley such as Gott’s Park golf course or the canal-side woodland trails that have been revived and reclaimed by local people taking their daily exercise time, walking with their families etc

    • Examples of the community coming together / things you have noticed out would like to investigate about the area during this time.

    • Celebrating new community groups/support networks that have come out of the crisis and investigating ways to make them more permanent

  • Investigating connection with our physical bodies / being present in our bodies whilst we’re all spending so much time online / how the situation has affected our bodies.

  • Exploring movement, whether actual and physical, imaginary, abstract, indoors or outdoors.

We are inviting proposals which indicate your ideas and how you would approach the project, you do not need to provide a detailed project plan, budget or specific descriptions of finished works, you do not need to include any sketches/designs in this application. It is fine to use up to 50% of the artist fee for purchasing materials and equipment. All submitted ideas and created artworks would remain solely the Copyright and Intellectual Property of the artist.
